In honor of Valentine's Day, I thought I'd do a short piece on why exercise... and more specifically exercising together... creates healthy relationships (between spouses, friends and family members)!

I believe that the couple that "plays" together stays together! Working out together, whether it's training in the gym, running at the beach, playing flag football, or taking a yoga class, is a form of adult "play" because it takes us away from the everyday routines and stressors we have as husband, wife, dad, mom, boss, etc., and allows us to compete, laugh, exert, and work towards a common goal. This commonality draws us closer, since most of us spend the majority of the day focused on individual tasks and the daily grind.

Whether it's a shared laugh, or a shared ambition to go "one more set", the experience raises endorphins (increased through exercise), balances hormones and heightens awareness of each other's physicality... something we should be more aware of!

Working out together also raises the bar when it comes to respect. Pushing each other to finish that 5 mile run, or to make it through the last 10 minutes of an hour and a half workout to do abs, not only strengthens you physically, but also strengthens your commitment and respect for each other... and that can be a real turn on!

It doesn't matter what you do, or how you do it, just find time to exercise together and you will reap the rewards of a "gym match" made in heaven.

I should know... I met my wife and exercise partner for life (pictured above) at... you guessed it... the gym!
